If you’re ever on a road trip through Minnesota and want to mix in something fun, relaxing, and a little different than the usual gas station snacks and quick stops, Chankaska Creek Ranch & Winery in Kasota is such a great place to visit.
We stopped here while driving through southern Minnesota, and it ended up being one of those unexpected highlights of the trip. The winery is beautiful, the vibe is laid-back, and it’s the kind of place where you can slow down for a couple of hours and just enjoy yourself.
About Chankaska Creek Ranch & Winery
Chankaska Creek Winery is family-owned and started back in 2008 when the founders decided to plant grapes and see what was possible with cold-climate wines right here in Minnesota.
Over the years, it’s grown into a really impressive vineyard and winery space, with a tasting room that opened in 2012. Even though it’s become a popular destination, it still feels warm and welcoming, not stuffy or intimidating.
It’s the kind of place that works whether you know a lot about wine or you’re just looking for a fun afternoon stop.

What We Ate at Chankaska Winery
One thing we really loved is that Chankaska isn’t just about wine — they also have great food options that are perfect for sharing while you sip.
Americana Pizza
We ordered the Americana Pizza, and it was exactly what you want at a winery: simple, classic, and really satisfying. Great crust, great flavor, and easy to split.
Charcuterie Board
We also got the charcuterie board, which was such a nice addition. A mix of meats, cheeses, crackers, fruit, and little extras that made the whole experience feel special without being over the top.
If you’re going with friends, this is definitely the move.

Cheese Bread
The cheese bread was warm, cheesy, and honestly hard to stop eating once we started. It’s the perfect snack to have on the table while you’re tasting wine.

What We Drank at Chankaska Creek Winery
Of course, the wine was the main event, and we tried a couple of their wines during our visit.
La Crescent
The La Crescent was light, crisp, and really refreshing. It had fruity, floral notes that made it super easy to sip. It felt like a great choice for a sunny afternoon.

Riesling
We also had the Riesling, which was slightly sweet but still nicely balanced. It paired really well with the cheese bread and charcuterie board and was one of those wines that almost anyone would enjoy.
