When we stayed at Hotel on Phillips, we didn’t plan on becoming regulars at a brewery… but when WoodGrain Brewing Co. is literally right across the street, it kind of just happens.
Like, you walk out the front door, glance across the road, and think… “Well, I guess we’re going there again.”
And we did. More than once.
Our Go-To Hangout Spot in Downtown Sioux Falls
After a day of exploring Sioux Falls, WoodGrain became our automatic end-of-day meet-up spot. No planning. No driving. No “Where should we go?” texts.
We’d freshen up at the hotel, cross the street, and boom — cold beer in hand within minutes.
It’s such an easy, laid-back space. Nothing fancy or overcomplicated. Just good beer, good vibes, and plenty of room to settle in and catch up with friends.
Patio + People Watching = Perfect Combo
If the weather’s nice, grab a spot on the patio. Trust us.
We loved sitting outside and just watching downtown Sioux Falls do its thing. You get the after-work crowd, couples out for dinner, groups of friends hopping between spots — it’s low-key great entertainment.
There’s something about sipping a cold beer while casually people-watching that just feels like vacation mode.
What We Ordered
We kept it pretty classic on this trip.
The wheat beer was super smooth and refreshing — easy drinking, slightly citrusy, and perfect for patio weather. Definitely the kind of beer you order without overthinking it.
We also had one of their IPAs, which had a solid hop flavor but wasn’t overwhelming. Balanced, flavorful, and one of those IPAs that both casual drinkers and hop lovers can agree on.
It’s the kind of brewery where you can confidently bring a group and know everyone will find something they like.
And then… we got a little hungry.
So we ordered the Three Meat WoodGrain pizza — and that was the right decision. Loaded up with hearty toppings and plenty of flavor, it paired perfectly with the beer. It’s the kind of pizza that makes you slow down for a second and go, “Okay yeah… this was a good call.”
Beer + patio + pizza + friends? Hard to beat.
There’s More Than One Location
One thing we didn’t realize at first? WoodGrain actually has more than one spot in Sioux Falls.
In addition to the downtown location (the one we basically adopted for the weekend), they also have another taproom on the east side of town. So if you’re not staying downtown, you’ve still got options.
We loved the downtown location for the walkability and patio vibes, but it’s cool knowing you can catch their beer in more than one part of the city.
Would We Go Back?
Absolutely.
Staying across from WoodGrain might’ve been accidental… but it was one of those happy travel surprises that just works out perfectly.
If you’re in Sioux Falls — especially downtown — grab a beer at WoodGrain, sit outside if you can, and just soak it all in. Sometimes the best travel memories aren’t big attractions.
Sometimes they’re just good beer, good friends, and an easy walk back to your hotel at the end of the night.
