Sometimes the best meals happen when you’re not even looking for them — and that’s exactly how we ended up at Stumpy’s Lakeside Grill in Granbury, Texas.
We were in town for a wedding and had a little free time before the festivities kicked off. Naturally, we went on the hunt for a relaxed lunch spot where we could grab some food, enjoy a cold beer, and soak up a little lake life. That search led us straight to Stumpy’s — and honestly, it couldn’t have worked out better.
With its waterfront location, casual marina vibe, and a menu full of comfort food favorites, Stumpy’s is the kind of place that feels instantly welcoming, even if it’s your first visit.

A Marina Vibe That Feels Very Granbury
Stumpy’s sits right on Lake Granbury, and it absolutely leans into that easygoing, come-as-you-are atmosphere. Boats coming and going, people hanging out after a day on the water, and a mix of locals and visitors all give the place that fun, laid-back energy you hope for in a marina restaurant.
Before we even sat down, we wandered through the on-site store, Stumpy’s Closet. They describe it as a classic ship store with a boutique twist, and that’s honestly the perfect way to put it. It’s part souvenir shop, part lake essentials, and part boutique — with a little bit of everything you didn’t know you needed.
This is also where I bought my first-ever pair of World’s Softest Socks — and yes, they absolutely live up to the name. If you know, you know.

What We Ate at Stumpy’s
Fried Shrimp Basket
The fried shrimp basket was exactly what you want when you’re eating near the water. The shrimp were batter fried nicely, full of flavor, and not overdone — always a win. It’s a simple dish, but it’s done right and feels light enough for a midday meal while still being filling.
Perfect lake food, especially if you’re craving seafood without anything too heavy.

BYO (Build Your Own) Burger
We also went with the BYO (build your own) burger, which is always a solid choice when you want something classic and customizable. The burger was juicy, cooked well, and hit the spot after a morning of wedding-weekend activities.
This is one of those menu items that’s hard to mess up, and Stumpy’s delivers — a straightforward, satisfying burger that pairs really well with a cold beer and a view of the water.

Self-Serve Chips and Salsa
One thing we loved right away? The self-serve chips and salsa. It’s such a small touch, but it instantly sets the tone. Grab a basket, help yourself, and snack while you’re deciding what to order. Casual, convenient, and perfect for a relaxed lunch stop.
What We Drank
No marina lunch is complete without a beer (or two), and Stumpy’s has that covered.
- Lagunitas IPA – A solid, hoppy choice that’s always reliable.
- Lone Star Beer – Because when you’re in Texas, it just feels right.
Both were ice cold and exactly what we needed while hanging out by the lake.

A Happy Accident Worth Repeating
Stumbling upon Stumpy’s Lakeside Grill in Granbury while visiting for a wedding turned into one of those unexpectedly great experiences. Good food, cold drinks, a fun store, and that unbeatable marina atmosphere made it a memorable lunch stop — and definitely somewhere we’d go back to if we’re in the area again.
Whether you’re spending the day on Lake Granbury, passing through town, or just looking for a relaxed spot to grab lunch and a beer, Stumpy’s is absolutely worth checking out. Bonus points if you leave with a full stomach… and a pair of ridiculously soft socks.
