If you’re planning a trip to Chicago and looking for a quick breakfast, a coffee break, or simply one of the best donuts in the city, Stan’s Donuts should be at the top of your list.
During our recent trip to Chicago, we kept hearing people talk about Stan’s Donuts and how they’re some of the best donuts you’ll find anywhere. Naturally, we had to see what all the hype was about. One morning while exploring the Magnificent Mile, we stopped in for breakfast, and after one bite, we completely understood why this place has become such a Chicago favorite.
From the fresh donuts to the friendly atmosphere, Stan’s was one of our favorite quick food stops during our visit.

Why We Decided to Visit Stan’s Donuts
One of our favorite parts of traveling is trying local favorites, especially bakeries, coffee shops, and breakfast spots. Before our trip, Stan’s Donuts kept showing up on Chicago recommendation lists, social media posts, and travel blogs.
Since we were already spending time shopping and sightseeing along Michigan Avenue, stopping at Stan’s for breakfast was an easy decision.
The location is convenient, the menu is huge, and it turned out to be the perfect way to start a busy day exploring downtown Chicago.

What We Ordered
One thing you’ll notice immediately when you walk into Stan’s is the incredible selection. There are rows and rows of colorful donuts ranging from classic glazed varieties to unique specialty creations.
After spending far too long trying to decide, we finally settled on:
Sprinkle Donut
Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.
The sprinkle donut had a soft, fluffy texture with just the right amount of sweetness. The frosting was smooth and fresh, and the colorful sprinkles added a little crunch to every bite.
It’s the kind of donut that reminds you why simple flavors can still be amazing.

Blueberry Donut
If we had to pick a favorite, this might have been it.
The blueberry donut was packed with flavor and had a rich, cake-like texture that was incredibly moist. The blueberry flavor came through without being overwhelming, and every bite tasted fresh.
It’s easily one of the best blueberry donuts we’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten a lot of blueberry donuts!

Some of the Best Donuts We’ve Ever Had
We’ve visited bakeries, donut shops, and coffee houses throughout the Midwest, and Stan’s Donuts ranks near the top of our list.
The donuts tasted freshly made, the portions were generous, and the quality was obvious from the first bite. It’s easy to see why both locals and tourists continue to recommend this place.
While Chicago is known for deep-dish pizza, hot dogs, and Italian beef sandwiches, don’t overlook the city’s donut scene. Stan’s Donuts deserves a spot on any Chicago food itinerary.

A Little History Behind Stan’s Donuts
One thing that makes Stan’s Donuts unique is that it isn’t just another trendy donut shop. The brand actually traces its roots back to 1963, when baker Stan Berman opened the original Stan’s Donuts in Los Angeles. Over the years, the tiny shop near UCLA became legendary among students, locals, and celebrities who lined up for Stan’s handcrafted creations.
In 2014, Chicago baker Rich Labriola partnered with Stan Berman to bring the famous donut shop to the Midwest. Today, Chicago visitors can enjoy many of the same recipes and creative flavors that helped make the original shop a California icon.
With more than six decades of donut-making history behind the brand, it’s easy to see why Stan’s has developed such a loyal following. After trying their donuts for ourselves, we can definitely understand the hype.

A Great Breakfast Stop on the Magnificent Mile
One thing we loved about this location was how easy it was to fit into our day.
Whether you’re staying downtown, shopping along Michigan Avenue, visiting nearby attractions, or heading to the lakefront, Stan’s makes for a convenient stop.
If you’re looking for:
- A quick breakfast before sightseeing
- A coffee and donut break while shopping
- A sweet afternoon snack
- A casual place to recharge during a busy day in Chicago
Stan’s Donuts is a great choice.
The atmosphere is casual, service is quick, and you can be back exploring the city within minutes.
Stan’s Donuts Has Become a Chicago Favorite
While we visited the Magnificent Mile location, it’s far from the only Stan’s Donuts in Chicago. Since opening its first Chicago shop in 2014, the brand has expanded across the city with locations in neighborhoods like Wicker Park, Streeterville, Lakeview, Hyde Park, Gold Coast, and the West Loop.
That growth says a lot about how popular Stan’s has become with both locals and visitors. After trying their donuts for ourselves, it’s easy to understand why so many people make a point to stop at Stan’s whenever they’re in Chicago.
Whether you’re exploring the Magnificent Mile, spending time near Millennium Park, or visiting one of Chicago’s neighborhoods, there’s a good chance you’ll find a Stan’s Donuts nearby.
